Effective studying: How it works. vol 1?

This photo looks quite funny but really true for some reasons, especially when the saying "too much is too bad" or rephrased as "too much of everything is bad" is considered, but does that mean one should relax and never seek for more knowledge? Should it suggest complecency? Or should you revert to a mediocre? I feel someone is actually saying a NO NO to that...

Now the question is, How can one effectively study?

I have some things that may be of help here

first, let me tackle the issue of dozing off as you read

These might help...

1. How long have you NOT slept?

This is important cos you cannot cheat nature. Get enough sleep first, some may complain about having No time and therefore can't have "enough" sleep but it's the same 24 hours that both the great and small had to use to become what they became. plan your day and sleep when it is time to sleep, little naps with light food are more helpful than heavy foods which can cause you to sleep too long.

2. What posture do you take when reading?

Certainly, you can't expect yourself to read for long if you are lying down, that's why bedtime stories are read in bed. The best posture is to sit on a normal chair with a reading table at a level just below your breast region ie. HALF WAY BETWEEN YOUR NAVEL(BELLY BUTTON) AND YOUR NECK, or thereabout, this is where you keep the book. You'll spend more time on the book while in this position than when you are on the bed.

3. Interest.

Before you read anybook, glance through it and seek things that can catch your attention, this can also help you to fall in love with that particular book and with that, you can stay longer, cover more and study faster because you already like the book or that there is something in the book that has caught your interest and you seek to know more.

4. Fatigue...

"Worked all day, had no time for myslef and I can't read right now" These things are what I used to say before but I began to understand myself and noticed how my schedule was, I began to schedule my day and work on my plans, I never allowed my schedules tie me down and I planned ahead of time creating space for emergencies incase of neccesities and planned my sleeping time before I read.

5. How much do you eat when you want to read?

Like I said in No. 1, too much food tends to keep you on the bed for long, too much food also induces sleep easily when you are reading or just sitting in a place relaxed. If you have to eat, take a little and while reading, sip water at intervals. It's better than eating heavily.

Combination of two or more of these outlines can be helpful. These techniques were crafted from observations from general bases and some special cases do exist.

hope you were helped by this post.

  1. Next post on vol 2 is coming up soon. There, I'll post about tips for retaining what you've read. Happy wednesday.
